REDEMPTION, Part One episode #26 of 4th season / Air Date: 6/17/91
written by Ronald D. Moore; Directed by Cliff Bole

Continuing the plot of Klingon politics & intrigue from Reunion: this was where Worf turned around the shame of his family - the false assertion that his father had been a traitor. It seems routine at first - The Enterprise is on the way to the Klingon homeworld where Picard is to finalize his role as arbiter, officially making Gowran (Robert O'Reilly) the chancellor. But, enter Lursa (Barbara March) & B'Etor (Gwynyth Walsh), the sisters of the deceased Duras (killed by Worf in Reunion); they unveil the son of Duras - a challenge to Gowran. What th...?

You know what this means, right? A Klingon Civil War! Arr! For whatever reason, many in the High Council decide to go with the Duras family, probably because (as everyone keeps mentioning) the Duras family is very powerful. Picard and the Federation adopt a neutral stance; from their perspective, this is an internal Klingon matter. However, this doesn't stop Lursa & B'Etor from trying to seduce Picard in one scene - eee... gnarly!
Worf had requested a leave of absence from Picard and goes to meet with his brother, Kurn (Tony Todd); as elder brother, Worf instructs Kurn, a high-ranking captain, to follow the banner of Gowran and gather as many allies as possible. Worf's plan is to request his family name back after they aid Gowran. Also, he doesn't like the Duras family - obviously (see Reunion).
This was the next season-ending 2-parter after The Best of Both Worlds, though it wasn't so much of a cliffhanger. Worf does resign his commission after Picard refuses to extend his leave of absence. And, the female Romulan commander in the shadows (see The Mind's Eye) reveals herself at the very end - it's
Spoiler:
another Tasha Yar! Actually, it turns out to be Yar's daughter (also played by Denise Crosby); this is the offspring of a Romulan & the Tasha Yar from Yesterday's Enterprise, an alternate timeline.
So, this episode brings together a lot of elements from past episodes and also proposes that Picard's actions in the past may have permanently altered this timeline... trippy.
BoG's Score: 7 out of 10
TNG Trivia: Guinan has one of her 'wise advice' scenes with Worf here, but it's in the target practice room, not Ten Forward; she shows that she is a far superior marksman - but she had a couple of centuries to practice; she brings up Worf's son, who is with Worf's parents.
