episode #4 / Air Date: 9.30.66
written by Ellis St. Joseph / Directed by William Hale

Doug & Tony land in Honolulu, Hawaii - 1941, the day before the strike on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese military. The two first appear inside the Japanese consulate, where secret plans are being discussed, secret papers being tussled. Tony gets all emotional as he realizes his parents are nearby; his dad disappeared during the attack. He contacts them but, though his father (Linden Chiles) is well versed in advanced math & time travel theory, he doesn't take Tony seriously. Japanese agents capture the time travelers and interrogate them, but don't get much info except nutty stories about time travel and the prophecy of Hiroshima.
That was the most interesting scene - when the Japanese agent is told that his people will lose the war; it suggests the power of knowing the future; the Japanese man doesn't believe this tale of doom but we get this sense of his helplessness - he and his own are doomed. The other premise most prominent with this episode is that the two time travelers do indeed affect events - why they seek to change history (and fail) still baffles me - but they do effect some unintentional changes; Japanese agents become aware of them and one servant is killed due to this. But, this is all portrayed as having meant to happen just as it did. In all, a very personal story for Tony. BoG's Score: 6 out of 10

Time Tunnel Trivia: Star Trek TOS actor alert - Sheldon Collins, who plays Tony as a little kid, also appeared in the TOS episode A Piece of the Action
