The Alien Factor (1978)

This very low budget sf thriller was from Baltimore filmmaker Don Dohler, who started making 8mm films in the sixties. The plot concerns an alien spaceship crash landing near the small community of Perry Hill. Three creatures which were on board the spaceship then run amok, terrorizing and killing locals. I don't recall footage of the ship landing - there probably wasn't a budget for it - and it simply begins, after the credits, with one of the creatures attacking a necking young couple in a car. The acting is all amateur hour - very stiff - and that's to be expected. The pace is pretty slow, too. The scene where the mayor and the hero find the downed ship isn't bad.

In an interview with Dohler in Cinefan #2 (1980), he states that one thing he would have changed is to not be in a rush, which he opines is one of the biggest flaws of the film.  Because of that approach, he came up short when he finished shooting and, after editing, had a 70-minute film. So he had to go back and shoot some filler scenes. That's low budget filmmaking for ya... BoG's Score: 2 out of 10
