episode #39 - The Song and Dance Spy

Post  BoG on Sun May 29, 2011 11:01 pm

episode #4 of 3rd season / Air Date: 10/5/75 Arrow written by Jerry Devine Arrow Directed by Richard Moder

Steve Austin takes on Sonny Bono! ..to the finish! For Keeps! Maybe not. Bono, who plays a popular singer, Perry, is also an old college buddy of Austin's. The two of them like to do 'put ons' - like Austin pretending that he has to confiscate all of Perry's musical equipment and Bono plays along. It's fairly amusing. What's not amusing is that Oscar Goldman claims that Perry is a bonafide spy, a courier for top secret tapes. Austin is shocked and unbelieving; he now has to accompany Perry to Guam and Manila, essentially betraying his friend in the process.
This one is kind of a romp, with Bono the comedy relief, as well as a slight mystery as we wait to find out if Austin's friend is no good or if someone in his band or support group is the actual culprit. There's a good bit of Austin stopping a huge crate from falling over on him and Perry can't figure out how he did it. There's a good fight scene at the end as Austin takes on a trio of thugs, one of whom is a really big guy. The main heavy is played by Bruce Glover, who previously appeared in the episode Doomsday and Counting as a Russian officer. BoG's Score: 6 out of 10
Bionic Trivia: one of Perry's girls is played by the statuesque Jayne Kennedy in a small role; she had a fairly big TV career in the late seventies and early eighties.
