episode #11 - The Jailing of Jaime

Post  BoG on Wed Jun 15, 2011 4:04 pm

episode #11 of 1st season / Air Date: 5/12/76 Arrow written by Bruce Shelly Arrow Directed by Alan Crosland

Jaime is set up and framed - her job at the start of the episode was simply that of a courier, but several people are in on the set up, including the helicopter pilot who transports her to the location for the hand off. She hands off a decoder gizmo to whom she thinks is a general, but he's not; he's the one at the center of the conspiracy. Jaime is then 'detained' by an NSB investigator (Skip Homeier), who is certain that she's been paid off. Barry Sullivan plays the developer of the 'macguffin' - the decoder.
As to be expected in an episode such as this, there are more people double dealing here than we know about in the first couple of acts. The plot hinges on the reveal of an extra bad guy in the final act. Jaime also reveals an intense dislike for being cooped up in a place like a jail cell. She's also called upon to utilize the full extent of her bionic strength at the climax, involving a vault door which doesn't give after her first effort; it shows how not everything is easy even for her and she has to strain at times, even be creative in applying her bionics to their full potential. The subtext of the story, however, is the devoted loyalty of Oscar to Jaime, when everyone else doubts her. It's demonstrated here that Oscar would gamble with his own life without hesitation as an expression of his trust in Jaime. BoG's Score: 6 out of 10
Star Trek TOS actor alert: Skip Homeier appeared in 2 TOS episodes - Patterns of Force and The Way to Eden.
