The Incredible Melting Man (1977)

I keep waiting for a USA DVD release of this one. It's not very good - I actually watched it in the theater when it first came out and it didn't thrill me that much - but it's been so long since I've last seen it, I may have to content myself with the YouTube version:

The film credits Alex Rebar as the Melting Man - an astronaut who returns afflicted - and he's unrecognizable after the first act or so. Burr DeBenning is next on the cast list as a doctor. The title obviously reminds some sci-fi fans of the more famous Incredible Shrinking Man... and this seemed an attempt to jumpstart a new sci-fi/horror monster franchise. It didn't really go that way. This also had some similarity to the fifties sf feature First Man Into Space. The make-up FX are by Rick Baker; the marketing also stressed the 'incredible' final melting scene, from what I recall.  Rolling Eyes But, watching a man melt away isn't high on anyone's expectations, I would think. BoG's Score: 3 out of 10
