Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey (1991)

Sequel to Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (89). As established in the previous film, paradise on Earth exists 700 years in the future due to the influence of Bill & Ted (Alex Winter & Keanu Reeves), a couple of slackers from 1989. However, in 2691 A.D., there is a faction led by a disgruntled fascist named Chuck (Joss Acklund) which denies this utopia. Chuck sends a couple of android duplicates of Bill & Ted to 1991 so that they will kill the two moronic heavy metal wannabes. Chuck happens to be the ex-teacher of Rufus (George Carlin, reprising) and, in traditional villain mode, announces his plans to him; Rufus also goes time traveling to warn his buddies but gets lost. Meanwhile, in 1991, Bill & Ted plan to hit it big in a concert and Ted's dad still wants to send him to military school; the two dudes also are going out with the girls from medieval Britain (played by different actresses) and live in an apartment (how they afford this is not explained).

Evil Bill and Evil Ted, the androids, kidnap the two slackers, take them to a deserted location in the desert, and throw them off a cliff. The two dudes do indeed die, but - being the unusual dudes that they are - they trick Death (William Sadler) and escape his grasp temporarily, wandering back to their home as ghosts. Despite being clueless about most things, they quickly figure out that they can enter people's bodies through the ear and possess them (some of this seems to copy Ghost {1990} at this point, though all the scenes with Death are a parody of Ingmar Bergman's The Seventh Seal '57). However, they soon end up in Hell and Death's domain, where there are a series of contests. In some ways, this one is more innovative - at least visually - than the first film, which was confined to simply picking up  various historical personages. This one also had a larger budget and we see more of this future utopia this time. BoG's Score: 6.5 out of 10
Bill & Ted's Trivia: originally to be titled Bill & Ted Go to Hell; I also remember a rumor about an alternate title, Bill & Ted Get Killed;
Star Trek TOS actor alert: William Shatner as Capt. Kirk appears on a TV showing the episode Arena, in Bill & Ted's apartment; later, the two dudes are taken to the same location - Vasquez Rocks - that this episode was filmed at
