The Actors:
Seamon Glass (Deputy Sheriff Dan Colter), Thayer Roberts (Jacob Elliot Saunders), Aubrey Martin (Juney), Mary Morlas (Cheryl Hudson), Michael Greene (Joe Baragi), Alan Austin (Al Weston), Carol Kent (Karen Barnes), Norman Winston (Sam Barnes), Ron Starr (Clint Delany)

The impressive This Is Not a Test resembles Day the World Ended, Panic in Year Zero! and perhaps Target Earth in that it focuses on a small group of survivors, some couples , some singles, some calm, some desperate, all needing to cooperate if anyone is to survive. But its perspective is just before doomsday rather than just after. The story focuses on a cop trying to keep order among a group of stopped motorists and organize a survival plan. In the mix are a hipster, a lush, a feuding couple, a grandfather and granddaughter, an escaped convict, and a poodle. None of the issues raised are deep, and little of the dialogue surprising. The direction by writer-producer Gadette (who made no other films ) is amateurish, confusingly breaking the axis of action many times. But the unknown actors are doing their best, and the fast pace coupled with a jazzy score (introducing a theremin toward the climax) helps maintain considerable tension. I didn 't love anyone, but I was interested in everyone. It's good enough to be taken seriously. Things get harsh in the final 20 minutes.
