The Eye Creatures (1965)

Yet another of the remakes of fifties sci-fi shlock by Larry Buchanan (most famous for Zontar, the Thing From Venus). This earlier one was sort of a remake of Invasion of the Saucer Men (1957). The original was pretty bad also but did have a few memorable moments involving short, big-headed alien invaders and a crawling alien hand. This remake has nothin; it's marked by the usual Buchanan trademarks of a very slow pace and horribly stiff acting.

The star is John Ashley. He plays a young guy who, while driving with his girlfriend, runs into one of the aliens. The alien's forearm gets severed and moves on its own, deflating the guy's tire. They wander to a house and call the cops; the cop thinks it's a gag and ignores the call. The house owner, an ornery old guy, arrives and kicks them out. That's about as exciting as it gets. The rest is less eventful. The aliens here are men-in-suits, looking faintly reptilian and lumpy.

I've given this matter regarding Buchanan's films some thought. I believe what sets them apart even from traditionally bad films is the combination of awful acting and awful dialog. It's like an exponentially putrid scenario with Buchanan's pictures - the lousiness factor is multiplied beyond what's usually expected.
The version below is in b&w, resembling a fifties picture, but the version on DVD is in color. BoG's Score: 1 out of 10
